As a Grandma and Great Aunt, I find myself invited to more and more baby showers. The baby showers I have attended lately are always filled with expensive gadgetry. Personally, I am not into gadgets. It took me years to learn to cook with a microwave and I am still not sure about my DVD player.
At the baby showers what I love to see are things that are beautiful or clever or sweet. I know those terms are a bit hard to define because they are just a matter of taste. Kim has some of the cutest baby outfits I have seen, and you wont see these on a rack anywhere.
This baby onesie is part of our Old McDonald line which I know you will enjoy. It is made of comfortable 100% cotton and fits size 0-6 months. It comes in soft baby pink and the bunny's face and ears are appliqued with soft fleece and the embroidered stitching around the neck and arms reads "Every where a Hip Hop" On the back is a fuzzy white tail, with the words "Hip Hop" embroidered above it.
But this is not the only one! The Old MacDonald line has a cow onesie, a horse onesie, a duck onesie and a lamb onesie. Any of these adorable onesies will make a hit at your next baby shower.

If you've been following this blog, you know that I have attended a few baby showers recently. I have seen lots of gadgets and lots of baby clothes and blankets.
In these days of ultra-sounds giving away the big gender secret, I am surprised that I have not seen more personalized gifts. Well, except for my niece who revealed the gender but not the name of her baby. So if you are looking for a baby shower gift, a personalized gift would truely be unique.
We have so many things to choose from, but my favorites are the butterfly peg racks. These beautiful butterflies are handpainted on 1/2 wood in several color choices. Black wires with wood beads make adorable antenna. A handy set of crystal pegs, makes this a perfect gift for butterfly collectors as well as useful in the babys room. It measures a full 8" x 12" and is drilled on the back to hang on the wall.
So, not only are these practical, but beautiful and unique.

I was thinking tonight about the families of the service men and women in Iraq. I feel so honored that there are men and women willing to serve in the military for what they believe is right for our country.
When I consider their children, I ache that they are separated from one or sometimes both parents who are in service. I remember my oldest niece was 2 before she saw her father since he was on a tour of duty in Vietnam. But children are often separated from a parent for other reasons as well. Many parents have to travel in their work.
If you are the parent or grandparent of one of these children, you want to make sure your child has lots of pictures available of the absent parent. I have the greatest sister in law. She remembers every holiday and every one in the family with a card. Since most of my family struggles to send out Christmas cards, her cards are special indeed.
As the year marches on, I realized Mother's Day and Father's Day are just around the corner. While both of my parents have been gone for several years, I always remember my mother by buying a pink rose. She loved pink so much that my parents bedroom was decorated in pink dotted swiss! I'll bet my Dad cringed many times over that. My Dad's big thing was gardening so on Father's Day I plant something in his honor.
My guess if you are reading this blog you are a mom. But you might start thinking of the other moms in your life you want to honor. While gifts are a great way to honor someone, their are many other ways as well. My personal favorite is a batch of brownies!

The one guarenteed smash hit at a baby shower is a bag. We called them diaper bags, but they always carried so much more.
My diaper bag carried not only a couple of spare diapers, but at least one change of clothes, a couple of thin blankets, a spare bottle or two in thermal jackets, and of course a variety of small toys.
As she got a bit older, the toys got bigger, and then food got added to the bag. Just going out to dinner became a huge production and I felt like a beast of burden carrying my baby and this huge heavy bag.
Kim, has a couple of adorable bags for babies. They are small backpacks on wheels that carry an amazing amount of stuff. In addition, there is a plush stuffed animal that detaches so your baby has a cuddly stuffed animal where ever you go.
The pack itself is plush and slips off the wheel assembly so you can throw the pack in the washer!
What's even better, is that as your child wants to walk instead of being carried, she can pull her own little bag. Since these bags dont scream 'diaper bag' they are great for an older childs sleep overs or tote for dance or gym class!

I had a wonderful opportunity to chat with my niece last week and she reports that Miss Juliette Cady is doing very well. She is performing her job of keeping Mom and Dad up all night perfectly. My other niece (Mom's sister) came to help out the first week home from the hospital and she also had her share of sleep deprevation.
My niece and I had a long chat about the names she and hubby chose for their new darling. They chose Juliette because they are both particularly fond of Shakespeare. So, she is named after the sweet young lover from "Romeo and Juliette". She was also named Cady after Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of those courageous women who worked so hard to get women the right to vote. It was exciting to learn that my niece and I share heros!
My sister is also a soon to be Grandma and we are working on planning a baby shower for for her daughter-in-law. All of these new babies in the family is certainly exciting!

Kim has a great line of unique jewelry boxes. Now, you might be thinking "But my baby doesn't wear jewelry!" Since my daughter was half Peruvian, she did receive jewelry when she was born, but it was several years before I allowed her to wear it. It would have been great to have a box just for her jewelry.
Even if your baby doesn't have jewelry, these boxes are so cute you will find lots of good use for them. They will look so sweet sitting on your changing table to have a safe place to hold diaper pins or other small things you need for baby.

If there is one item of clothing a baby goes thru almost as fast as a diaper, it is the T-shirt. Between drool, burps and occasional diaper leakage, my babies got a clean t-shirt or onesie about every time they got a diaper change. In my time they were just solid t-shirts and we went through so many I didn't care if they were pink, blue, yellow, or white.
You have so many more options now. All of our kids t-shirt designs can be applied to pink, blue, yellow or mint green baby tees. We have small, medium and large tees just for babies.

My niece and her husband held out all through her pregnancy on telling us the name of her baby. She told us the gender when she first found out, but all we could do is guess and make suggestions as to her name.
When my new great niece was born on Monday night, her name was finally revealed. She is Juliette Cady D…. I think it was a great idea to keep her name a secret. It really served to keep the suspension up among the family.
Now, I have heard that my sister's son and his wife are expecting! Our family is growing by leaps and bounds.
One of my own grandchildren is in her teens and the others are not far behind. It is so much fun watching the next generation grow. We get to watch our own children learn to be parents and go through the same struggles we went through ourselves.
Grandparenting is a great time of life.
