In spite of the fact that I am deep in my 50's, I find myself responding to season changes the same as I did when I was much younger.

Last August I had an unexplainable urge to shop for clothes. The old school shopping need doesn't go away because I am no longer in school or have no children in school. With the holidays approaching, I am having the strongest urge to start cooking. Perhaps I have the instinct to squirrel food away for the winter. Or, perhaps I want to start in on those holiday cookies and desserts. But needless to say I have been cooking like I need to feed an army for a week now.

A piggy bank makes a great way to save for your childs future.

Whenever your pocket or change purse becomes over flowing with coin just empty that change into your baby's piggy bank. When it starts getting full, just remove the plastic stopper and take the change to your bank and open an account for your child.

For me Mother's Day is the most special day of the year. I like Christmas, Thanksgiving and 4th of July, but none of them can beat Mother's Day. Even to this day I buy a bouquet of pink roses in memory of my own Mother. It's just a habit I can't break.

Howard Susan LouiseA couple of days ago, I told you all about the NamiWalk that I went on. Here is a photo of one of my brothers, my sister and myself as we set out on the walk. (I am the one in the wheelchair). The walk was attended by lots of families with babies and toddlers in strollers and dogs on leashes. Some folks decided to jog the 5k walk instead of taking it more slowly.

While this is a baby gift blog, I frequently feel obligated to address issues that are outside the realm of enjoying the personalized products from Kidoodles by Kim.

This weekend I participated in the 2008 NamiWalks in Columbia, SC.  It is a great organization which I support as a participant in meetings and support groups. NAMI not only provides support to those with a mental illness but also to families and friends of the mentally ill. I invite you to investigate NAMI if you suffer from depression, anxiety or other diagnosis. If you are concerned with the lives of the mentally ill, I encourage you to contribute and participate in the NAMI group in your area.

I don't often get into recommending movies, but I really enjoyed watching 'Martian Child' this past week.

It stars John and Joan Cusack whom I frequently enjoy watching. A widowed man decides to follow through with his deceased wife's plan to adopt a child. As I watched the movie I was so moved by how real and vivid a child's imagination can be. In this case the little boy uses his imagination to protect himself from the trauma of abandonment by his natural parents.

I have the greatest sister in law. She remembers every holiday and every one in the family with a card. Since most of my family struggles to send out Christmas cards, her cards are special indeed.
